Local Wine Beer and Cider at the Carlton Hotel

You may have noticed we at the Carlton Hotel love our local wines. With so many quality wineries producing award winning cool-climate wines, we try to feature as many as we can.

Clyde Park - A small vineyard established in 1979 on the banks of the Moorabool River, Clyde Park was until recently relatively unknown. With new ownership and additional plantings in 1996, Clyde Park has been consistently winning national awards for both their red and white wines. We have a great shiraz of theirs, plus "Soiree" which is an interesting blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.

Del Rios - Located on Mt Anakie with an elevation of 280 meters above sea level means this winery has more of a continental climate which goes perfectly with their Spanish winemaking heritage. Del Rios is a family run winery with all 3 generations involved in the wine making process. All grapes are handpicked and French oaked, making their riesling a perfectly balanced wine, suited to a wide range of food.

Bannockburn Vineyards - Established in 1974, it is one of the oldest vineyards in the reigon. Stuart Hooper was inspired by the great wines of France, with a personal philosophy of making wine to reflect the flavours of the vineyard. Using only estate grown fruit, you can taste the skill and careful consideration that has gone into making the Cab Shiraz Merlot Pinot Noir blend, yes that's right, unusual but    spectacular.

Leura Park - Located only 10 minutes away in Wallington, Leura Park uses 100% estate grown, predominately hand picked, grapes.  Their Pinot Gris, which is included in our wine list received a rating of 91 in the 2012 James Halliday wine companion. Flying Brick Cider is also produced at Leura Park, using only fresh fruit with no added sugar or colourings, refreshingly natural.

Scotchmans Hill - Is a family run company and one of the regions largest producing wineries with vineyards throughout the Bellarine Peninsular. As well as their "Scotchmans Hill" and "Swan Bay" range which are both locally grown, they have vineyards in New Zealand which produce "Pebble Bay" and in South Australia, which produce "Henry Frost".

Jack Rabbit - (Formally Kilgour Estate) Recently taken over by the experienced wine makers at Leura Park and undergoing major renovations, Jack Rabbit is already producing some excellent wines, including their Shiraz which has spent some time in French Oak, resulting in a flavoursome wine with a hint of   berries.

Otway Estate Prickly Moses - The Brewery at Otway Estate was established in 2007 and has earned itself a strong following in Geelong, The Great Ocean Road & Melbourne. Using  only pure otway rain  water, all beer is handcrafted in small batches. Please ask your waiter what Otway beer we currently have on tap.

"We don't believe in charging more simply because its a wedding" says Hotel manager Kerry Harris, "I think now days people have a lot of financial commitments and see getting married as another cost, but you don't have to spend alot to have a stylish and memorable wedding. It's been such a busy festival season in Victoria that The Calton Hotel has decided to hold our very own Geelong carpark festival - Festivus for the Rest of Us! It's Sunday 24 April starting at 12pm with over 20 bands including Little Red, After the Fall, Children Collide, Bag Raiders and plenty more. Run Geelong 2010

This weekend (Sunday, 21 November) is the Cotton On Foundation Run Geelong. Competitors were able to choose from a 6km or 12km circuit that will take them through some of Geelong's most iconic landmarks: the waterfront, central Geelong, the James Harrison Bridge, Eastern Gardens and Skilled Stadium.

It's a wonderful event and a great cause with all event proceeds being donated to the redevelopment of the Children's Ward at the Geelong Hospital. Whether you're competing or spectating, come down and see us at your favourite Geelong hotel, The Carlton for a refreshing drink afterwards.

Join us at Our Geelong Hotel After the Superboat Classic

The next big event coming to Geelong is the Offshore Superboat Classic 13 - 14 November 2010. It's a free event and you'll get a great view of all the action from Steampacket Gardens and Cunningham Pier on the Geelong waterfront, just a short walk from us at The Carlton Hotel.

Competitors will be racing powerboats and wowing crowds all along Geelong's Corio Bay. There will also be plenty of opportunities to talk to some of the drivers and get a close look at these amazing machines that can travel up to 200 kms an hour.
